The Current State of Slowball Empty The Current State of Slowball

Wed Jul 10, 2019 10:41 pm
I am a firm believer that the game of Slowball as is is not capable of attracting or keeping talent of the highest quality, and is actually a game that curries favor to players that do not have the individual prowess to succeed in other, more fleshed out, maps on HaxBall. Many of Slowball's greatest talents and would-be legends were players that had already plied their trade in other maps and came here to find a new challenge, which they did not find. Meanwhile, when Slowball mains branched out towards new leagues, they found themselves exposed as duds who lack the skill, knowledge, astuteness, and adaptability of other players within those leagues, and found themselves either leaving immediately, finding zero playtime, or hunting for scraps on bottom of the barrel lineups. For example, look at the list of champions and their rosters in Slowball, then look at the list of champions and their rosters in other leagues. You'll find next to no Slowballers in those leagues, yet you can immediately see players from 3v3 leagues, Spacebounce, Real Soccer, Haxfootball, etc. on the Slowball rosters. Furthermore, if you ask any of those leagues who their top players are, you will find that not a single person will mention an original Slowballer within their top ranks.

Major League Slowball is relatively healthy and has done well to live on its own, but the talent disparity with other leagues is overwhelming. Many teams have even taken it upon them to take talents from other leagues and attempt to look for easy titles, and it has consistently worked. Unless Major League Slowball decides to begin thinking about how to actually keep their few good players in and let them develop together more, Slowball as a game will be consistently overtaken by other nascent leagues and players and stagnate and even decrease in quality.
